St. David of Dvin,
Sts. Eulampia and Eulampius of Nicomedia, martyrs

Proverbs 13:1-7
Micah 7:18-20
Hebrews 12:1-7
Luke 13:22-30

Proverbs 13:1-7

[1] A wise son hears his father’s instruction,
but a scoffer does not listen to rebuke.
[2] From the fruit of his mouth a good man eats good,
but the desire of the treacherous is for violence.
[3] He who guards his mouth preserves his life;
he who opens wide his lips comes to ruin.
[4] The soul of the sluggard craves, and gets nothing,
while the soul of the diligent is richly supplied.
[5] A righteous man hates falsehood,
but a wicked man acts shamefully and disgracefully.
[6] Righteousness guards him whose way is upright,
but sin overthrows the wicked.
[7] One man pretends to be rich, yet has nothing;
another pretends to be poor, yet has great wealth.

Micah 7:18-20

[18] Who is a God like thee, pardoning iniquity
and passing over transgression
for the remnant of his inheritance?
He does not retain his anger for ever
because he delights in steadfast love.
[19] He will again have compassion upon us,
he will tread our iniquities under foot.
Thou wilt cast all our sins
into the depths of the sea.
[20] Thou wilt show faithfulness to Jacob
and steadfast love to Abraham,
as thou hast sworn to our fathers
from the days of old.

Hebrews 12:1-7

[1] Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with perseverance the race that is set before us,
[2] looking to Jesus the pioneer and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.
[3] Consider him who endured from sinners such hostility against himself, so that you may not grow weary or fainthearted.
[4] In your struggle against sin you have not yet resisted to the point of shedding your blood.
[5] And have you forgotten the exhortation which addresses you as sons? — “My son, do not regard lightly the discipline of the Lord,
nor lose courage when you are punished by him.
[6] For the Lord disciplines him whom he loves,
and chastises every son whom he receives.”
[7] It is for discipline that you have to endure. God is treating you as sons; for what son is there whom his father does not discipline?

Luke 13:22-30

[22] He went on his way through towns and villages, teaching, and journeying toward Jerusalem.
[23] And some one said to him, “Lord, will those who are saved be few?” And he said to them,
[24] “Strive to enter by the narrow door; for many, I tell you, will seek to enter and will not be able.
[25] When once the householder has risen up and shut the door, you will begin to stand outside and to knock at the door, saying, `Lord, open to us.’ He will answer you, `I do not know where you come from.’
[26] Then you will begin to say, `We ate and drank in your presence, and you taught in our streets.’
[27] But he will say, `I tell you, I do not know where you come from; depart from me, all you workers of iniquity!’
[28] There you will weep and gnash your teeth, when you see Abraham and Isaac and Jacob and all the prophets in the kingdom of God and you yourselves thrust out.
[29] And men will come from east and west, and from north and south, and sit at table in the kingdom of God.
[30] And behold, some are last who will be first, and some are first who will be last.”
