John 12:27-43
[27] “Now is my soul troubled. And what shall I say? `Father, save me from this hour’? No, for this purpose I have come to this hour.
[28] Father, glorify thy name.” Then a voice came from heaven, “I have glorified it, and I will glorify it again.”
[29] The crowd standing by heard it and said that it had thundered. Others said, “An angel has spoken to him.”
[30] Jesus answered, “This voice has come for your sake, not for mine.
[31] Now is the judgment of this world, now shall the ruler of this world be cast out;
[32] and I, when I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all men to myself.”
[33] He said this to show by what death he was to die.
[34] The crowd answered him, “We have heard from the law that the Christ remains for ever. How can you say that the Son of man must be lifted up? Who is this Son of man?”
[35] Jesus said to them, “The light is with you for a little longer. Walk while you have the light, lest the darkness overtake you; he who walks in the darkness does not know where he goes.
[36] While you have the light, believe in the light, that you may become sons of light.”
When Jesus had said this, he departed and hid himself from them.
[37] Though he had done so many signs before them, yet they did not believe in him;
[38] it was that the word spoken by the prophet Isaiah might be fulfilled: “Lord, who has believed our report,
and to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed?”
[39] Therefore they could not believe. For Isaiah again said,
[40] “He has blinded their eyes and hardened their heart,
lest they should see with their eyes and perceive with their heart,
and turn for me to heal them.”
[41] Isaiah said this because he saw his glory and spoke of him.
[42] Nevertheless many even of the authorities believed in him, but for fear of the Pharisees they did not confess it, lest they should be put out of the synagogue:
[43] for they loved the praise of men more than the praise of God.
Isaiah 60:20-22
[20] Your sun shall no more go down,
nor your moon withdraw itself;
for the LORD will be your everlasting light,
and your days of mourning shall be ended.
[21] Your people shall all be righteous;
they shall possess the land for ever,
the shoot of my planting, the work of my hands,
that I might be glorified.
[22] The least one shall become a clan,
and the smallest one a mighty nation;
I am the LORD;
in its time I will hasten it.
Ezekiel 36:24-31
[24] For I will take you from the nations, and gather you from all the countries, and bring you into your own land.
[25] I will sprinkle clean water upon you, and you shall be clean from all your uncleannesses, and from all your idols I will cleanse you.
[26] A new heart I will give you, and a new spirit I will put within you; and I will take out of your flesh the heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh.
[27] And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes and be careful to observe my ordinances.
[28] You shall dwell in the land which I gave to your fathers; and you shall be my people, and I will be your God.
[29] And I will deliver you from all your uncleannesses; and I will summon the grain and make it abundant and lay no famine upon you.
[30] I will make the fruit of the tree and the increase of the field abundant, that you may never again suffer the disgrace of famine among the nations.
[31] Then you will remember your evil ways, and your deeds that were not good; and you will loathe yourselves for your iniquities and your abominable deeds.
Hebrews 10:19-31
[19] Therefore, brethren, since we have confidence to enter the sanctuary by the blood of Jesus,
[20] by the new and living way which he opened for us through the curtain, that is, through his flesh,
[21] and since we have a great priest over the house of God,
[22] let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, with our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water.
[23] Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful;
[24] and let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works,
[25] not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.
[26] For if we sin deliberately after receiving the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins,
[27] but a fearful prospect of judgment, and a fury of fire which will consume the adversaries.
[28] A man who has violated the law of Moses dies without mercy at the testimony of two or three witnesses.
[29] How much worse punishment do you think will be deserved by the man who has spurned the Son of God, and profaned the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified, and outraged the Spirit of grace?
[30] For we know him who said, “Vengeance is mine, I will repay.” And again, “The Lord will judge his people.”
[31] It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.
Luke 7:36-50
[36] One of the Pharisees asked him to eat with him, and he went into the Pharisee’s house, and took his place at table.
[37] And behold, a woman of the city, who was a sinner, when she learned that he was at table in the Pharisee’s house, brought an alabaster flask of ointment,
[38] and standing behind him at his feet, weeping, she began to wet his feet with her tears, and wiped them with the hair of her head, and kissed his feet, and anointed them with the ointment.
[39] Now when the Pharisee who had invited him saw it, he said to himself, “If this man were a prophet, he would have known who and what sort of woman this is who is touching him, for she is a sinner.”
[40] And Jesus answering said to him, “Simon, I have something to say to you.” And he answered, “What is it, Teacher?”
[41] “A certain creditor had two debtors; one owed five hundred denarii, and the other fifty.
[42] When they could not pay, he forgave them both. Now which of them will love him more?”
[43] Simon answered, “The one, I suppose, to whom he forgave more.” And he said to him, “You have judged rightly.”
[44] Then turning toward the woman he said to Simon, “Do you see this woman? I entered your house, you gave me no water for my feet, but she has wet my feet with her tears and wiped them with her hair.
[45] You gave me no kiss, but from the time I came in she has not ceased to kiss my feet.
[46] You did not anoint my head with oil, but she has anointed my feet with ointment.
[47] Therefore I tell you, her sins, which are many, are forgiven, for she loved much; but he who is forgiven little, loves little.”
[48] And he said to her, “Your sins are forgiven.”
[49] Then those who were at table with him began to say among themselves, “Who is this, who even forgives sins?”
[50] And he said to the woman, “Your faith has saved you; go in peace.”
Genesis 22:1-18
[1] After these things God tested Abraham, and said to him, “Abraham!” And he said, “Here am I.”
[2] He said, “Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Mori’ah, and offer him there as a burnt offering upon one of the mountains of which I shall tell you.”
[3] So Abraham rose early in the morning, saddled his ass, and took two of his young men with him, and his son Isaac; and he cut the wood for the burnt offering, and arose and went to the place of which God had told him.
[4] On the third day Abraham lifted up his eyes and saw the place afar off.
[5] Then Abraham said to his young men, “Stay here with the ass; I and the lad will go yonder and worship, and come again to you.”
[6] And Abraham took the wood of the burnt offering, and laid it on Isaac his son; and he took in his hand the fire and the knife. So they went both of them together.
[7] And Isaac said to his father Abraham, “My father!” And he said, “Here am I, my son.” He said, “Behold, the fire and the wood; but where is the lamb for a burnt offering?”
[8] Abraham said, “God will provide himself the lamb for a burnt offering, my son.” So they went both of them together.
[9] When they came to the place of which God had told him, Abraham built an altar there, and laid the wood in order, and bound Isaac his son, and laid him on the altar, upon the wood.
[10] Then Abraham put forth his hand, and took the knife to slay his son.
[11] But the angel of the LORD called to him from heaven, and said, “Abraham, Abraham!” And he said, “Here am I.”
[12] He said, “Do not lay your hand on the lad or do anything to him; for now I know that you fear God, seeing you have not withheld your son, your only son, from me.”
[13] And Abraham lifted up his eyes and looked, and behold, behind him was a ram, caught in a thicket by his horns; and Abraham went and took the ram, and offered it up as a burnt offering instead of his son.
[14] So Abraham called the name of that place The LORD will provide; as it is said to this day, “On the mount of the LORD it shall be provided.”
[15] And the angel of the LORD called to Abraham a second time from heaven,
[16] and said, “By myself I have sworn, says the LORD, because you have done this, and have not withheld your son, your only son,
[17] I will indeed bless you, and I will multiply your descendants as the stars of heaven and as the sand which is on the seashore. And your descendants shall possess the gate of their enemies,
[18] and by your descendants shall all the nations of the earth bless themselves, because you have obeyed my voice.”
Isaiah 61:1-7
[1] The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me,
because the LORD has anointed me
to bring good tidings to the afflicted;
he has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted,
to proclaim liberty to the captives,
and the opening of the prison to those who are bound;
[2] to proclaim the year of the LORD’s favor,
and the day of vengeance of our God;
to comfort all who mourn;
[3] to grant to those who mourn in Zion —
to give them a garland instead of ashes,
the oil of gladness instead of mourning,
the mantle of praise instead of a faint spirit;
that they may be called oaks of righteousness,
the planting of the LORD, that he may be glorified.
[4] They shall build up the ancient ruins,
they shall raise up the former devastations;
they shall repair the ruined cities,
the devastations of many generations.
[5] Aliens shall stand and feed your flocks,
foreigners shall be your plowmen and vinedressers;
[6] but you shall be called the priests of the LORD,
men shall speak of you as the ministers of our God;
you shall eat the wealth of the nations,
and in their riches you shall glory.
[7] Instead of your shame you shall have a double portion,
instead of dishonor you shall rejoice in your lot;
therefore in your land you shall possess a double portion;
yours shall be everlasting joy.
Acts 1:15-26
[15] In those days Peter stood up among the brethren (the company of persons was in all about a hundred and twenty), and said,
[16] “Brethren, the scripture had to be fulfilled, which the Holy Spirit spoke beforehand by the mouth of David, concerning Judas who was guide to those who arrested Jesus.
[17] For he was numbered among us, and was allotted his share in this ministry.
[18] (Now this man bought a field with the reward of his wickedness; and falling headlong he burst open in the middle and all his bowels gushed out.
[19] And it became known to all the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so that the field was called in their language Akel’dama, that is, Field of Blood.)
[20] For it is written in the book of Psalms, `Let his habitation become desolate,
and let there be no one to live in it’;
and `His office let another take.’
[21] So one of the men who have accompanied us during all the time that the Lord Jesus went in and out among us,
[22] beginning from the baptism of John until the day when he was taken up from us — one of these men must become with us a witness to his resurrection.”
[23] And they put forward two, Joseph called Barsab’bas, who was surnamed Justus, and Matthi’as.
[24] And they prayed and said, “Lord, who knowest the hearts of all men, show which one of these two thou hast chosen
[25] to take the place in this ministry and apostleship from which Judas turned aside, to go to his own place.”
[26] And they cast lots for them, and the lot fell on Matthi’as; and he was enrolled with the eleven apostles.
Mark 14:1-26
[1] It was now two days before the Passover and the feast of Unleavened Bread. And the chief priests and the scribes were seeking how to arrest him by stealth, and kill him;
[2] for they said, “Not during the feast, lest there be a tumult of the people.”
[3] And while he was at Bethany in the house of Simon the leper, as he sat at table, a woman came with an alabaster flask of ointment of pure nard, very costly, and she broke the flask and poured it over his head.
[4] But there were some who said to themselves indignantly, “Why was the ointment thus wasted?
[5] For this ointment might have been sold for more than three hundred denarii, and given to the poor.” And they reproached her.
[6] But Jesus said, “Let her alone; why do you trouble her? She has done a beautiful thing to me.
[7] For you always have the poor with you, and whenever you will, you can do good to them; but you will not always have me.
[8] She has done what she could; she has anointed my body beforehand for burying.
[9] And truly, I say to you, wherever the gospel is preached in the whole world, what she has done will be told in memory of her.”
[10] Then Judas Iscariot, who was one of the twelve, went to the chief priests in order to betray him to them.
[11] And when they heard it they were glad, and promised to give him money. And he sought an opportunity to betray him.
[12] And on the first day of Unleavened Bread, when they sacrificed the passover lamb, his disciples said to him, “Where will you have us go and prepare for you to eat the passover?”
[13] And he sent two of his disciples, and said to them, “Go into the city, and a man carrying a jar of water will meet you; follow him,
[14] and wherever he enters, say to the householder, `The Teacher says, Where is my guest room, where I am to eat the passover with my disciples?’
[15] And he will show you a large upper room furnished and ready; there prepare for us.”
[16] And the disciples set out and went to the city, and found it as he had told them; and they prepared the passover.
[17] And when it was evening he came with the twelve.
[18] And as they were at table eating, Jesus said, “Truly, I say to you, one of you will betray me, one who is eating with me.”
[19] They began to be sorrowful, and to say to him one after another, “Is it I?”
[20] He said to them, “It is one of the twelve, one who is dipping bread into the dish with me.
[21] For the Son of man goes as it is written of him, but woe to that man by whom the Son of man is betrayed! It would have been better for that man if he had not been born.”
[22] And as they were eating, he took bread, and blessed, and broke it, and gave it to them, and said, “Take; this is my body.”
[23] And he took a cup, and when he had given thanks he gave it to them, and they all drank of it.
[24] And he said to them, “This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many.
[25] Truly, I say to you, I shall not drink again of the fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it new in the kingdom of God.”
[26] And when they had sung a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives.
I Corinthians 11:23-32
[23] For I received from the Lord what I also delivered to you, that the Lord Jesus on the night when he was betrayed took bread,
[24] and when he had given thanks, he broke it, and said, “This is my body which is for you. Do this in remembrance of me.”
[25] In the same way also the cup, after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me.”
[26] For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes.
[27] Whoever, therefore, eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of profaning the body and blood of the Lord.
[28] Let a man examine himself, and so eat of the bread and drink of the cup.
[29] For any one who eats and drinks without discerning the body eats and drinks judgment upon himself.
[30] That is why many of you are weak and ill, and some have died.
[31] But if we judged ourselves truly, we should not be judged.
[32] But when we are judged by the Lord, we are chastened so that we may not be condemned along with the world.
Matthew 26:17-30
[17] Now on the first day of Unleavened Bread the disciples came to Jesus, saying, “Where will you have us prepare for you to eat the passover?”
[18] He said, “Go into the city to a certain one, and say to him, `The Teacher says, My time is at hand; I will keep the passover at your house with my disciples.’”
[19] And the disciples did as Jesus had directed them, and they prepared the passover.
[20] When it was evening, he sat at table with the twelve disciples;
[21] and as they were eating, he said, “Truly, I say to you, one of you will betray me.”
[22] And they were very sorrowful, and began to say to him one after another, “Is it I, Lord?”
[23] He answered, “He who has dipped his hand in the dish with me, will betray me.
[24] The Son of man goes as it is written of him, but woe to that man by whom the Son of man is betrayed! It would have been better for that man if he had not been born.”
[25] Judas, who betrayed him, said, “Is it I, Master?” He said to him, “You have said so.”
[26] Now as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and blessed, and broke it, and gave it to the disciples and said, “Take, eat; this is my body.”
[27] And he took a cup, and when he had given thanks he gave it to them, saying, “Drink of it, all of you;
[28] for this is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.
[29] I tell you I shall not drink again of this fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father’s kingdom.”
[30] And when they had sung a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives.
Exodus 30:17-21
[17] The LORD said to Moses,
[18] “You shall also make a laver of bronze, with its base of bronze, for washing. And you shall put it between the tent of meeting and the altar, and you shall put water in it,
[19] with which Aaron and his sons shall wash their hands and their feet.
[20] When they go into the tent of meeting, or when they come near the altar to minister, to burn an offering by fire to the LORD, they shall wash with water, lest they die.
[21] They shall wash their hands and their feet, lest they die: it shall be a statute for ever to them, even to him and to his descendants throughout their generations.”
I Kings 7:38-40
[38] And he made ten lavers of bronze; each laver held forty baths, each laver measured four cubits, and there was a laver for each of the ten stands.
[39] And he set the stands, five on the south side of the house, and five on the north side of the house; and he set the sea on the southeast corner of the house.
[40] Hiram also made the pots, the shovels, and the basins. So Hiram finished all the work that he did for King Solomon on the house of the LORD:
II Chronicles 4:2-6
[2] Then he made the molten sea; it was round, ten cubits from brim to brim, and five cubits high, and a line of thirty cubits measured its circumference.
[3] Under it were figures of gourds, for thirty cubits, compassing the sea round about; the gourds were in two rows, cast with it when it was cast.
[4] It stood upon twelve oxen, three facing north, three facing west, three facing south, and three facing east; the sea was set upon them, and all their hinder parts were inward.
[5] Its thickness was a handbreadth; and its brim was made like the brim of a cup, like the flower of a lily; it held over three thousand baths.
[6] He also made ten lavers in which to wash, and set five on the south side, and five on the north side. In these they were to rinse off what was used for the burnt offering, and the sea was for the priests to wash in.
Isaiah 44:2-6
[2] Thus says the LORD who made you,
who formed you from the womb and will help you:
Fear not, O Jacob my servant,
Jeshu’run whom I have chosen.
[3] For I will pour water on the thirsty land,
and streams on the dry ground;
I will pour my Spirit upon your descendants,
and my blessing on your offspring.
[4] They shall spring up like grass amid waters,
like willows by flowing streams.
[5] This one will say, `I am the LORD’s,’
another will call himself by the name of Jacob,
and another will write on his hand, `The LORD’s,’
and surname himself by the name of Israel.”
[6] Thus says the LORD, the King of Israel
and his Redeemer, the LORD of hosts:
“I am the first and I am the last;
besides me there is no god.
I Corinthians 10:1-4
[1] I want you to know, brethren, that our fathers were all under the cloud, and all passed through the sea,
[2] and all were baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea,
[3] and all ate the same supernatural food
[4] and all drank the same supernatural drink. For they drank from the supernatural Rock which followed them, and the Rock was Christ.
I John 4:7-21
[7] Beloved, let us love one another; for love is of God, and he who loves is born of God and knows God.
[8] He who does not love does not know God; for God is love.
[9] In this the love of God was made manifest among us, that God sent his only Son into the world, so that we might live through him.
[10] In this is love, not that we loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the expiation for our sins.
[11] Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.
[12] No man has ever seen God; if we love one another, God abides in us and his love is perfected in us.
[13] By this we know that we abide in him and he in us, because he has given us of his own Spirit.
[14] And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent his Son as the Savior of the world.
[15] Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides in him, and he in God.
[16] So we know and believe the love God has for us. God is love, and he who abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him.
[17] In this is love perfected with us, that we may have confidence for the day of judgment, because as he is so are we in this world.
[18] There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear. For fear has to do with punishment, and he who fears is not perfected in love.
[19] We love, because he first loved us.
[20] If any one says, “I love God,” and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen, cannot love God whom he has not seen.
[21] And this commandment we have from him, that he who loves God should love his brother also.
John 13:1-11
[1] Now before the feast of the Passover, when Jesus knew that his hour had come to depart out of this world to the Father, having loved his own who were in the world, he loved them to the end.
[2] And during supper, when the devil had already put it into the heart of Judas Iscariot, Simon’s son, to betray him,
[3] Jesus, knowing that the Father had given all things into his hands, and that he had come from God and was going to God,
[4] rose from supper, laid aside his garments, and girded himself with a towel.
[5] Then he poured water into a basin, and began to wash the disciples’ feet, and to wipe them with the towel with which he was girded.
[6] He came to Simon Peter; and Peter said to him, “Lord, do you wash my feet?”
[7] Jesus answered him, “What I am doing you do not know now, but afterward you will understand.”
[8] Peter said to him, “You shall never wash my feet.” Jesus answered him, “If I do not wash you, you have no part in me.”
[9] Simon Peter said to him, “Lord, not my feet only but also my hands and my head!”
[10] Jesus said to him, “He who has bathed does not need to wash, except for his feet, but he is clean all over; and you are clean, but not every one of you.”
[11] For he knew who was to betray him; that was why he said, “You are not all clean.”
John 13:12-15
[12] When he had washed their feet, and taken his garments, and resumed his place, he said to them, “Do you know what I have done to you?
[13] You call me Teacher and Lord; and you are right, for so I am.
[14] If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet.
[15] For I have given you an example, that you also should do as I have done to you.
