Luke 7:1-10
[1] After he had ended all his sayings in the hearing of the people he entered Caper’na-um.
[2] Now a centurion had a slave who was dear to him, who was sick and at the point of death.
[3] When he heard of Jesus, he sent to him elders of the Jews, asking him to come and heal his slave.
[4] And when they came to Jesus, they besought him earnestly, saying, “He is worthy to have you do this for him,
[5] for he loves our nation, and he built us our synagogue.”
[6] And Jesus went with them. When he was not far from the house, the centurion sent friends to him, saying to him, “Lord, do not trouble yourself, for I am not worthy to have you come under my roof;
[7] therefore I did not presume to come to you. But say the word, and let my servant be healed.
[8] For I am a man set under authority, with soldiers under me: and I say to one, `Go,’ and he goes; and to another, `Come,’ and he comes; and to my slave, `Do this,’ and he does it.”
[9] When Jesus heard this he marveled at him, and turned and said to the multitude that followed him, “I tell you, not even in Israel have I found such faith.”
[10] And when those who had been sent returned to the house, they found the slave well.
Acts 9:32-43
[32] Now as Peter went here and there among them all, he came down also to the saints that lived at Lydda.
[33] There he found a man named Aene’as, who had been bedridden for eight years and was paralyzed.
[34] And Peter said to him, “Aene’as, Jesus Christ heals you; rise and make your bed.” And immediately he rose.
[35] And all the residents of Lydda and Sharon saw him, and they turned to the Lord.
[36] Now there was at Joppa a disciple named Tabitha, which means Dorcas. She was full of good works and acts of charity.
[37] In those days she fell sick and died; and when they had washed her, they laid her in an upper room.
[38] Since Lydda was near Joppa, the disciples, hearing that Peter was there, sent two men to him entreating him, “Please come to us without delay.”
[39] So Peter rose and went with them. And when he had come, they took him to the upper room. All the widows stood beside him weeping, and showing tunics and other garments which Dorcas made while she was with them.
[40] But Peter put them all outside and knelt down and prayed; then turning to the body he said, “Tabitha, rise.” And she opened her eyes, and when she saw Peter she sat up.
[41] And he gave her his hand and lifted her up. Then calling the saints and widows he presented her alive.
[42] And it became known throughout all Joppa, and many believed in the Lord.
[43] And he stayed in Joppa for many days with one Simon, a tanner.
I Peter 2:11-17
[11] Beloved, I beseech you as aliens and exiles to abstain from the passions of the flesh that wage war against your soul.
[12] Maintain good conduct among the Gentiles, so that in case they speak against you as wrongdoers, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day of visitation.
[13] Be subject for the Lord’s sake to every human institution, whether it be to the emperor as supreme,
[14] or to governors as sent by him to punish those who do wrong and to praise those who do right.
[15] For it is God’s will that by doing right you should put to silence the ignorance of foolish men.
[16] Live as free men, yet without using your freedom as a pretext for evil; but live as servants of God.
[17] Honor all men. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honor the emperor.
John 3:13-21
[13] No one has ascended into heaven but he who descended from heaven, the Son of man.
[14] And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of man be lifted up,
[15] that whoever believes in him may have eternal life.”
[16] For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.
[17] For God sent the Son into the world, not to condemn the world, but that the world might be saved through him.
[18] He who believes in him is not condemned; he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.
[19] And this is the judgment, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.
[20] For every one who does evil hates the light, and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed.
[21] But he who does what is true comes to the light, that it may be clearly seen that his deeds have been wrought in God.
Matthew 9:9-17
[9] As Jesus passed on from there, he saw a man called Matthew sitting at the tax office; and he said to him, “Follow me.” And he rose and followed him.
[10] And as he sat at table in the house, behold, many tax collectors and sinners came and sat down with Jesus and his disciples.
[11] And when the Pharisees saw this, they said to his disciples, “Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?”
[12] But when he heard it, he said, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick.
[13] Go and learn what this means, `I desire mercy, and not sacrifice.’ For I came not to call the righteous, but sinners.”
[14] Then the disciples of John came to him, saying, “Why do we and the Pharisees fast, but your disciples do not fast?”
[15] And Jesus said to them, “Can the wedding guests mourn as long as the bridegroom is with them? The days will come, when the bridegroom is taken away from them, and then they will fast.
[16] And no one puts a piece of unshrunk cloth on an old garment, for the patch tears away from the garment, and a worse tear is made.
[17] Neither is new wine put into old wineskins; if it is, the skins burst, and the wine is spilled, and the skins are destroyed; but new wine is put into fresh wineskins, and so both are preserved.”
Mark 3:13-19
[13] And he went up on the mountain, and called to him those whom he desired; and they came to him.
[14] And he appointed twelve, to be with him, and to be sent out to preach
[15] and have authority to cast out demons:
[16] Simon whom he surnamed Peter;
[17] James the son of Zeb’edee and John the brother of James, whom he surnamed Bo-aner’ges, that is, sons of thunder;
[18] Andrew, and Philip, and Bartholomew, and Matthew, and Thomas, and James the son of Alphaeus, and Thaddaeus, and Simon the Cananaean,
[19] and Judas Iscariot, who betrayed him.
Then he went home;
