Luke 13:10-21
[10] Now he was teaching in one of the synagogues on the sabbath.
[11] And there was a woman who had had a spirit of infirmity for eighteen years; she was bent over and could not fully straighten herself.
[12] And when Jesus saw her, he called her and said to her, “Woman, you are freed from your infirmity.”
[13] And he laid his hands upon her, and immediately she was made straight, and she praised God.
[14] But the ruler of the synagogue, indignant because Jesus had healed on the sabbath, said to the people, “There are six days on which work ought to be done; come on those days and be healed, and not on the sabbath day.”
[15] Then the Lord answered him, “You hypocrites! Does not each of you on the sabbath untie his ox or his ass from the manger, and lead it away to water it?
[16] And ought not this woman, a daughter of Abraham whom Satan bound for eighteen years, be loosed from this bond on the sabbath day?”
[17] As he said this, all his adversaries were put to shame; and all the people rejoiced at all the glorious things that were done by him.
[18] He said therefore, “What is the kingdom of God like? And to what shall I compare it?
[19] It is like a grain of mustard seed which a man took and sowed in his garden; and it grew and became a tree, and the birds of the air made nests in its branches.”
[20] And again he said, “To what shall I compare the kingdom of God?
[21] It is like leaven which a woman took and hid in three measures of flour, till it was all leavened.”
Acts 19:1-20
[1] While Apol’los was at Corinth, Paul passed through the upper country and came to Ephesus. There he found some disciples.
[2] And he said to them, “Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?” And they said, “No, we have never even heard that there is a Holy Spirit.”
[3] And he said, “Into what then were you baptized?” They said, “Into John’s baptism.”
[4] And Paul said, “John baptized with the baptism of repentance, telling the people to believe in the one who was to come after him, that is, Jesus.”
[5] On hearing this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.
[6] And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Spirit came on them; and they spoke with tongues and prophesied.
[7] There were about twelve of them in all.
[8] And he entered the synagogue and for three months spoke boldly, arguing and pleading about the kingdom of God;
[9] but when some were stubborn and disbelieved, speaking evil of the Way before the congregation, he withdrew from them, taking the disciples with him, and argued daily in the hall of Tyran’nus.
[10] This continued for two years, so that all the residents of Asia heard the word of the Lord, both Jews and Greeks.
[11] And God did extraordinary miracles by the hands of Paul,
[12] so that handkerchiefs or aprons were carried away from his body to the sick, and diseases left them and the evil spirits came out of them.
[13] Then some of the itinerant Jewish exorcists undertook to pronounce the name of the Lord Jesus over those who had evil spirits, saying, “I adjure you by the Jesus whom Paul preaches.”
[14] Seven sons of a Jewish high priest named Sceva were doing this.
[15] But the evil spirit answered them, “Jesus I know, and Paul I know; but who are you?”
[16] And the man in whom the evil spirit was leaped on them, mastered all of them, and overpowered them, so that they fled out of that house naked and wounded.
[17] And this became known to all residents of Ephesus, both Jews and Greeks; and fear fell upon them all; and the name of the Lord Jesus was extolled.
[18] Many also of those who were now believers came, confessing and divulging their practices.
[19] And a number of those who practiced magic arts brought their books together and burned them in the sight of all; and they counted the value of them and found it came to fifty thousand pieces of silver.
[20] So the word of the Lord grew and prevailed mightily.
I John 2:24-25
[24] Let what you heard from the beginning abide in you. If what you heard from the beginning abides in you, then you will abide in the Son and in the Father.
[25] And this is what he has promised us, eternal life.
John 8:21-30
[21] Again he said to them, “I go away, and you will seek me and die in your sin; where I am going, you cannot come.”
[22] Then said the Jews, “Will he kill himself, since he says, `Where I am going, you cannot come’?”
[23] He said to them, “You are from below, I am from above; you are of this world, I am not of this world.
[24] I told you that you would die in your sins, for you will die in your sins unless you believe that I am he.”
[25] They said to him, “Who are you?” Jesus said to them, “Even what I have told you from the beginning.
[26] I have much to say about you and much to judge; but he who sent me is true, and I declare to the world what I have heard from him.”
[27] They did not understand that he spoke to them of the Father.
[28] So Jesus said, “When you have lifted up the Son of man, then you will know that I am he, and that I do nothing on my own authority but speak thus as the Father taught me.
[29] And he who sent me is with me; he has not left me alone, for I always do what is pleasing to him.”
[30] As he spoke thus, many believed in him.
Matthew 15:1-20
[1] Then Pharisees and scribes came to Jesus from Jerusalem and said,
[2] “Why do your disciples transgress the tradition of the elders? For they do not wash their hands when they eat.”
[3] He answered them, “And why do you transgress the commandment of God for the sake of your tradition?
[4] For God commanded, `Honor your father and your mother,’ and, `He who speaks evil of father or mother, let him surely die.’
[5] But you say, `If any one tells his father or his mother, What you would have gained from me is given to God, he need not honor his father.’
[6] So, for the sake of your tradition, you have made void the word of God.
[7] You hypocrites! Well did Isaiah prophesy of you, when he said:
[8] `This people honors me with their lips,
but their heart is far from me;
[9] in vain do they worship me,
teaching as doctrines the precepts of men.’”
[10] And he called the people to him and said to them, “Hear and understand:
[11] not what goes into the mouth defiles a man, but what comes out of the mouth, this defiles a man.”
[12] Then the disciples came and said to him, “Do you know that the Pharisees were offended when they heard this saying?”
[13] He answered, “Every plant which my heavenly Father has not planted will be rooted up.
[14] Let them alone; they are blind guides. And if a blind man leads a blind man, both will fall into a pit.”
[15] But Peter said to him, “Explain the parable to us.”
[16] And he said, “Are you also still without understanding?
[17] Do you not see that whatever goes into the mouth passes into the stomach, and so passes on?
[18] But what comes out of the mouth proceeds from the heart, and this defiles a man.
[19] For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, fornication, theft, false witness, slander.
[20] These are what defile a man; but to eat with unwashed hands does not defile a man.”
Mark 7:31-37
[31] Then he returned from the region of Tyre, and went through Sidon to the Sea of Galilee, through the region of the Decap’olis.
[32] And they brought to him a man who was deaf and had an impediment in his speech; and they besought him to lay his hand upon him.
[33] And taking him aside from the multitude privately, he put his fingers into his ears, and he spat and touched his tongue;
[34] and looking up to heaven, he sighed, and said to him, “Eph’phatha,” that is, “Be opened.”
[35] And his ears were opened, his tongue was released, and he spoke plainly.
[36] And he charged them to tell no one; but the more he charged them, the more zealously they proclaimed it.
[37] And they were astonished beyond measure, saying, “He has done all things well; he even makes the deaf hear and the dumb speak.”
