Twelve Prophets: Sts. Hosea, Amos, Micah, Joel, Obadiah, Nahum, Habakkuk, Jonah, Zephaniah, Haggai, Zechariah, and Malachi
 Sow for yourselves righteousness,
reap the fruit of steadfast love;
break up your fallow ground,
for it is the time to seek the LORD,
that he may come and rain salvation upon you.
 They hate him who reproves in the gate,
and they abhor him who speaks the truth.
 Therefore because you trample upon the poor
and take from him exactions of wheat,
you have built houses of hewn stone,
but you shall not dwell in them;
you have planted pleasant vineyards,
but you shall not drink their wine.
 For I know how many are your transgressions,
and how great are your sins —
you who afflict the righteous, who take a bribe,
and turn aside the needy in the gate.
 Therefore he who is prudent will keep silent in such a time;
for it is an evil time.
 Seek good, and not evil,
that you may live;
and so the LORD, the God of hosts, will be with you,
as you have said.
 But as for me, I will look to the LORD,
I will wait for the God of my salvation;
my God will hear me.
 Rejoice not over me, O my enemy;
when I fall, I shall rise;
when I sit in darkness,
the LORD will be a light to me.
 I will bear the indignation of the LORD
because I have sinned against him,
until he pleads my cause
and executes judgment for me.
He will bring me forth to the light;
I shall behold his deliverance.
 “Yet even now,” says the LORD,
“return to me with all your heart,
with fasting, with weeping, and with mourning;
 and rend your hearts and not your garments.”
Return to the LORD, your God,
for he is gracious and merciful,
slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love,
and repents of evil.
 Saviors shall go up to Mount Zion
to rule Mount Esau;
and the kingdom shall be the LORD’s.
 And he prayed to the LORD and said, “I pray thee, LORD, is not this what I said when I was yet in my country? That is why I made haste to flee to Tarshish; for I knew that thou art a gracious God and merciful, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love, and repentest of evil.
 The LORD is good,
a stronghold in the day of trouble;
he knows those who take refuge in him.
 But with an overflowing flood
he will make a full end of his adversaries,
and will pursue his enemies into darkness.
 What do you plot against the LORD?
He will make a full end;
he will not take vengeance twice on his foes.
 O LORD, how long shall I cry for help,
and thou wilt not hear?
Or cry to thee “Violence!”
and thou wilt not save?
 Why dost thou make me see wrongs
and look upon trouble?
Destruction and violence are before me;
strife and contention arise.
 Be silent before the Lord GOD!
For the day of the LORD is at hand;
the LORD has prepared a sacrifice
and consecrated his guests.
 And on the day of the LORD’S sacrifice —
“I will punish the officials and the king’s sons
and all who array themselves in foreign attire.
 On the twenty-fourth day of the ninth month, in the second year of Darius, the word of the LORD came by Haggai the prophet,
 “Thus says the LORD of hosts, Render true judgments, show kindness and mercy each to his brother,
 do not oppress the widow, the fatherless, the sojourner, or the poor; and let none of you devise evil against his brother in your heart.”
 But they refused to hearken, and turned a stubborn shoulder, and stopped their ears that they might not hear.
 They made their hearts like adamant lest they should hear the law and the words which the LORD of hosts had sent by his Spirit through the former prophets. Therefore great wrath came from the LORD of hosts.
 “As I called, and they would not hear, so they called, and I would not hear,” says the LORD of hosts,
 “A son honors his father, and a servant his master. If then I am a father, where is my honor? And if I am a master, where is my fear? says the LORD of hosts to you, O priests, who despise my name. You say, `How have we despised thy name?’
 God has not rejected his people whom he foreknew. Do you not know what the scripture says of Eli’jah, how he pleads with God against Israel?
 “Lord, they have killed thy prophets, they have demolished thy altars, and I alone am left, and they seek my life.”
 But what is God’s reply to him? “I have kept for myself seven thousand men who have not bowed the knee to Ba’al.”
 So too at the present time there is a remnant, chosen by grace.
 At that very hour some Pharisees came, and said to him, “Get away from here, for Herod wants to kill you.”
 And he said to them, “Go and tell that fox, `Behold, I cast out demons and perform cures today and tomorrow, and the third day I finish my course.
 Nevertheless I must go on my way today and tomorrow and the day following; for it cannot be that a prophet should perish away from Jerusalem.’
 O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, killing the prophets and stoning those who are sent to you! How often would I have gathered your children together as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, and you would not!
 Behold, your house is forsaken. And I tell you, you will not see me until you say, `Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!’”
