Catholicos St. Nerses the Great,
St. Bishop Khat

Wisdom 2:23-3:8
Isaiah 57:15-16
Hebrews 13:7-9
Matthew 10:16-22

Wisdom 2:23-3:8

[23] for God created man for incorruption,
and made him in the image of his own eternity,
[24] but through the devil’s envy death entered the world,
and those who belong to his party experience it.

Chapter 3
[1] But the souls of the righteous are in the hand of God,
and no torment will ever touch them.
[2] In the eyes of the foolish they seemed to have died,
and their departure was thought to be an affliction,
[3] and their going from us to be their destruction;
but they are at peace.
[4] For though in the sight of men they were punished,
their hope is full of immortality.
[5] Having been disciplined a little, they will receive great good,
because God tested them and found them worthy of himself;
[6] like gold in the furnace he tried them,
and like a sacrificial burnt offering he accepted them.
[7] In the time of their visitation they will shine forth,
and will run like sparks through the stubble.
[8] They will govern nations and rule over peoples,
and the Lord will reign over them for ever.

Isaiah 57:15-16

[15] For thus says the high and lofty One
who inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy:
“I dwell in the high and holy place,
and also with him who is of a contrite and humble spirit,
to revive the spirit of the humble,
and to revive the heart of the contrite.
[16] For I will not contend for ever,
nor will I always be angry;
for from me proceeds the spirit,
and I have made the breath of life.

Hebrews 13:7-9

[7] Remember your leaders, those who spoke to you the word of God; consider the outcome of their life,
and imitate their faith.
[8] Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and for ever.
[9] Do not be led away by diverse and strange teachings; for it is well that the heart be strengthened by grace, not by foods, which have not benefited their adherents.

Matthew 10:16-22

[16] “Behold, I send you out as sheep in the midst of wolves; so be wise as serpents and innocent as doves.
[17] Beware of men; for they will deliver you up to councils, and flog you in their synagogues,
[18] and you will be dragged before governors and kings for my sake, to bear testimony before them and the Gentiles.
[19] When they deliver you up, do not be anxious how you are to speak or what you are to say; for what you are to say will be given to you in that hour;
[20] for it is not you who speak, but the Spirit of your Father speaking through you.
[21] Brother will deliver up brother to death, and the father his child, and children will rise against parents and have them put to death;
[22] and you will be hated by all for my name’s sake. But he who endures to the end will be saved.
