I Timothy 3:14-16
I Peter 2:1-10
 Honor the LORD with your substance
and with the first fruits of all your produce;
 then your barns will be filled with plenty,
and your vats will be bursting with wine.
 My son, do not despise the LORD’s discipline
or be weary of his reproof,
 for the LORD reproves him whom he loves,
as a father the son in whom he delights.
 Happy is the man who finds wisdom,
and the man who gets understanding,
 for the gain from it is better than gain from silver
and its profit better than gold.
 She is more precious than jewels,
and nothing you desire can compare with her.
 Long life is in her right hand;
in her left hand are riches and honor.
 Her ways are ways of pleasantness,
and all her paths are peace.
 For thus says the LORD:
“Behold, I will extend prosperity to her like a river,
and the wealth of the nations like an overflowing stream;
and you shall suck, you shall be carried upon her hip,
and dandled upon her knees.
 As one whom his mother comforts,
so I will comfort you;
you shall be comforted in Jerusalem.
 You shall see, and your heart shall rejoice;
your bones shall flourish like the grass;
and it shall be known that the hand of the LORD is with his
and his indignation is against his enemies.
 “For behold, the LORD will come in fire,
and his chariots like the stormwind,
to render his anger in fury,
and his rebuke with flames of fire.
 For by fire will the LORD execute judgment,
and by his sword, upon all flesh;
and those slain by the LORD shall be many.
I Timothy 3:14-16
 I hope to come to you soon, but I am writing these instructions to you so that,
 if I am delayed, you may know how one ought to behave in the household of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and bulwark of the truth.
 Great indeed, we confess, is the mystery of our religion: He was manifested in the flesh,
vindicated in the Spirit,
seen by angels,
preached among the nations,
believed on in the world,
taken up in glory.
 Now when Jesus came into the district of Caesare’a Philip’pi, he asked his disciples, “Who do men say that the Son of man is?”
 And they said, “Some say John the Baptist, others say Eli’jah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.”
 He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?”
 Simon Peter replied, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”
 And Jesus answered him, “Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jona! For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my Father who is in heaven.
 And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the powers of death shall not prevail against it.
 I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.”
 In these days he went out to the mountain to pray; and all night he continued in prayer to God.
 And when it was day, he called his disciples, and chose from them twelve, whom he named apostles;
 Simon, whom he named Peter, and Andrew his brother, and James and John, and Philip, and Bartholomew,
 and Matthew, and Thomas, and James the son of Alphaeus, and Simon who was called the Zealot,
 and Judas the son of James, and Judas Iscariot, who became a traitor.
 And he came down with them and stood on a level place, with a great crowd of his disciples and a great multitude of people from all Judea and Jerusalem and the seacoast of Tyre and Sidon, who came to hear him and to be healed of their diseases;
 and those who were troubled with unclean spirits were cured.
 And all the crowd sought to touch him, for power came forth from him and healed them all.
 And he lifted up his eyes on his disciples, and said: “Blessed are you poor, for yours is the kingdom of God.
 “Blessed are you that hunger now, for you shall be satisfied. “Blessed are you that weep now, for you shall laugh.
 “Blessed are you when men hate you, and when they exclude you and revile you, and cast out your name as evil, on account of the Son of man!
 Rejoice in that day, and leap for joy, for behold, your reward is great in heaven; for so their fathers did to the prophets.
 “But woe to you that are rich, for you have received your consolation.
 “Woe to you that are full now, for you shall hunger. “Woe to you that laugh now, for you shall mourn and weep.
 “Woe to you, when all men speak well of you, for so their fathers did to the false prophets.
 “But I say to you that hear, Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you,
 bless those who curse you, pray for those who abuse you.
 To him who strikes you on the cheek, offer the other also; and from him who takes away your coat do not withhold even your shirt.
 Give to every one who begs from you; and of him who takes away your goods do not ask them again.
 And as you wish that men would do to you, do so to them.
 “If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners love those who love them.
 And if you do good to those who do good to you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners do the same.
 And if you lend to those from whom you hope to receive, what credit is that to you? Even sinners lend to sinners, to receive as much again.
 But love your enemies, and do good, and lend, expecting nothing in return; and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High; for he is kind to the ungrateful and the selfish.
 Be merciful, even as your Father is merciful.
 “Judge not, and you will not be judged; condemn not, and you will not be condemned; forgive, and you will be forgiven;
 give, and it will be given to you; good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap. For the measure you give will be the measure you get back.”
 He also told them a parable: “Can a blind man lead a blind man? Will they not both fall into a pit?
 A disciple is not above his teacher, but every one when he is fully taught will be like his teacher.
 Why do you see the speck that is in your brother’s eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye?
 Or how can you say to your brother, `Brother, let me take out the speck that is in your eye,’ when you yourself do not see the log that is in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take out the speck that is in your brother’s eye.
 “For no good tree bears bad fruit, nor again does a bad tree bear good fruit;
 for each tree is known by its own fruit. For figs are not gathered from thorns, nor are grapes picked from a bramble bush.
 The good man out of the good treasure of his heart produces good, and the evil man out of his evil treasure produces evil; for out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.
 “Why do you call me `Lord, Lord,’ and not do what I tell you?
 Every one who comes to me and hears my words and does them, I will show you what he is like:
 he is like a man building a house, who dug deep, and laid the foundation upon rock; and when a flood arose, the stream broke against that house, and could not shake it, because it had been well built.
 But he who hears and does not do them is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation; against which the stream broke, and immediately it fell, and the ruin of that house was great.”
 When many days had passed, the Jews plotted to kill him,
 but their plot became known to Saul. They were watching the gates day and night, to kill him;
 but his disciples took him by night and let him down over the wall, lowering him in a basket.
 And when he had come to Jerusalem he attempted to join the disciples; and they were all afraid of him, for they did not believe that he was a disciple.
 But Barnabas took him, and brought him to the apostles, and declared to them how on the road he had seen the Lord, who spoke to him, and how at Damascus he had preached boldly in the name of Jesus.
 So he went in and out among them at Jerusalem,
 preaching boldly in the name of the Lord. And he spoke and disputed against the Hellenists; but they were seeking to kill him.
 And when the brethren knew it, they brought him down to Caesare’a, and sent him off to Tarsus.
 So the church throughout all Judea and Galilee and Sama’ria had peace and was built up; and walking in the fear of the Lord and in the comfort of the Holy Spirit it was multiplied.
I Peter 2:1-10
 So put away all malice and all guile and insincerity and envy and all slander.
 Like newborn babes, long for the pure spiritual milk, that by it you may grow up to salvation;
 for you have tasted the kindness of the Lord.
 Come to him, to that living stone, rejected by men but in God’s sight chosen and precious;
 and like living stones be yourselves built into a spiritual house, to be a holy priesthood, to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.
 For it stands in scripture: “Behold, I am laying in Zion a stone, a cornerstone chosen and precious, and he who believes in him will not be put to shame.”
 To you therefore who believe, he is precious, but for those who do not believe, “The very stone which the builders rejected
has become the head of the corner,”
 and “A stone that will make men stumble,
a rock that will make them fall”;
for they stumble because they disobey the word, as they were destined to do.
 But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s own people, that you may declare the wonderful deeds of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.
 Once you were no people but now you are God’s people; once you had not received mercy but now you have received mercy.
 Now when he was in Jerusalem at the Passover feast, many believed in his name when they saw the signs which he did;
 but Jesus did not trust himself to them,
 because he knew all men and needed no one to bear witness of man; for he himself knew what was in man.
 Now there was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicode’mus, a ruler of the Jews.
 This man came to Jesus by night and said to him, “Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher come from God; for no one can do these signs that you do, unless God is with him.”
 Jesus answered him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born anew, he cannot see the kingdom of God.”
 Nicode’mus said to him, “How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother’s womb and be born?”
 Jesus answered, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God.
 That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.
 Do not marvel that I said to you, `You must be born anew.’
 The wind blows where it wills, and you hear the sound of it, but you do not know whence it comes or whither it goes; so it is with every one who is born of the Spirit.”
 Nicode’mus said to him, “How can this be?”
 Jesus answered him, “Are you a teacher of Israel, and yet you do not understand this?
 Truly, truly, I say to you, we speak of what we know, and bear witness to what we have seen; but you do not receive our testimony.
 If I have told you earthly things and you do not believe, how can you believe if I tell you heavenly things?
 Now when Jesus saw great crowds around him, he gave orders to go over to the other side.
 And a scribe came up and said to him, “Teacher, I will follow you wherever you go.”
 And Jesus said to him, “Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests; but the Son of man has nowhere to lay his head.”
 Another of the disciples said to him, “Lord, let me first go and bury my father.”
 But Jesus said to him, “Follow me, and leave the dead to bury their own dead.”
 And when he got into the boat, his disciples followed him.
 And behold, there arose a great storm on the sea, so that the boat was being swamped by the waves; but he was asleep.
 And they went and woke him, saying, “Save, Lord; we are perishing.”
 And he said to them, “Why are you afraid, O men of little faith?” Then he rose and rebuked the winds and the sea; and there was a great calm.
 And the men marveled, saying, “What sort of man is this, that even winds and sea obey him?”
 And when he came to the other side, to the country of the Gadarenes, two demoniacs met him, coming out of the tombs, so fierce that no one could pass that way.
 And behold, they cried out, “What have you to do with us, O Son of God? Have you come here to torment us before the time?”
 Now a herd of many swine was feeding at some distance from them.
 And the demons begged him, “If you cast us out, send us away into the herd of swine.”
 And he said to them, “Go.” So they came out and went into the swine; and behold, the whole herd rushed down the steep bank into the sea, and perished in the waters.
 The herdsmen fled, and going into the city they told everything, and what had happened to the demoniacs.
 And behold, all the city came out to meet Jesus; and when they saw him, they begged him to leave their neighborhood.
 And getting into a boat he crossed over and came to his own city.
 And behold, they brought to him a paralytic, lying on his bed; and when Jesus saw their faith he said to the paralytic, “Take heart, my son; your sins are forgiven.”
 And behold, some of the scribes said to themselves, “This man is blaspheming.”
 But Jesus, knowing their thoughts, said, “Why do you think evil in your hearts?
 For which is easier, to say, `Your sins are forgiven,’ or to say, `Rise and walk’?
 But that you may know that the Son of man has authority on earth to forgive sins” — he then said to the paralytic — “Rise, take up your bed and go home.”
 And he rose and went home.
 When the crowds saw it, they were afraid, and they glorified God, who had given such authority to men.
 The Pharisees went out, and immediately held counsel with the Hero’di-ans against him, how to destroy him.
 Jesus withdrew with his disciples to the sea, and a great multitude from Galilee followed; also from Judea
 and Jerusalem and Idume’a and from beyond the Jordan and from about Tyre and Sidon a great multitude, hearing all that he did, came to him.
 And he told his disciples to have a boat ready for him because of the crowd, lest they should crush him;
 for he had healed many, so that all who had diseases pressed upon him to touch him.
 And whenever the unclean spirits beheld him, they fell down before him and cried out, “You are the Son of God.”
 And he strictly ordered them not to make him known.
