Twenty-seventh Day of Zadeeg
II Peter 3:1-9
 He was praying in a certain place, and when he ceased, one of his disciples said to him, “Lord, teach us to pray, as John taught his disciples.”
 And he said to them, “When you pray, say:
“Father, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come.
 Give us each day our daily bread;
 and forgive us our sins, for we ourselves forgive every one who is indebted to us; and lead us not into temptation.”
 And he said to them, “Which of you who has a friend will go to him at midnight and say to him, `Friend, lend me three loaves;
 for a friend of mine has arrived on a journey, and I have nothing to set before him’;
 and he will answer from within, `Do not bother me; the door is now shut, and my children are with me in bed; I cannot get up and give you anything’?
 I tell you, though he will not get up and give him anything because he is his friend, yet because of his importunity he will rise and give him whatever he needs.
 And I tell you, Ask, and it will be given you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.
 For every one who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.
 What father among you, if his son asks for a fish, will instead of a fish give him a serpent;
 or if he asks for an egg, will give him a scorpion?
 If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will the heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!”
 So when they were sent off, they went down to Antioch; and having gathered the congregation together, they delivered the letter.
 And when they read it, they rejoiced at the exhortation.
 And Judas and Silas, who were themselves prophets, exhorted the brethren with many words and strengthened them.
 And after they had spent some time, they were sent off in peace by the brethren to those who had sent them.
 But Paul and Barnabas remained in Antioch, teaching and preaching the word of the Lord, with many others also.
 And after some days Paul said to Barnabas, “Come, let us return and visit the brethren in every city where we proclaimed the word of the Lord, and see how they are.”
 And Barnabas wanted to take with them John called Mark.
 But Paul thought best not to take with them one who had withdrawn from them in Pamphyl’ia, and had not gone with them to the work.
 And there arose a sharp contention, so that they separated from each other; Barnabas took Mark with him and sailed away to Cyprus,
 but Paul chose Silas and departed, being commended by the brethren to the grace of the Lord.
 And he went through Syria and Cili’cia, strengthening the churches.
 And he came also to Derbe and to Lystra. A disciple was there, named Timothy, the son of a Jewish woman who was a believer; but his father was a Greek.
 He was well spoken of by the brethren at Lystra and Ico’nium.
 Paul wanted Timothy to accompany him; and he took him and circumcised him because of the Jews that were in those places, for they all knew that his father was a Greek.
 As they went on their way through the cities, they delivered to them for observance the decisions which had been reached by the apostles and elders who were at Jerusalem.
 So the churches were strengthened in the faith, and they increased in numbers daily.
II Peter 3:1-9
 This is now the second letter that I have written to you, beloved, and in both of them I have aroused your sincere mind by way of reminder;
 that you should remember the predictions of the holy prophets and the commandment of the Lord and Savior through your apostles.
 First of all you must understand this, that scoffers will come in the last days with scoffing, following their own passions
 and saying, “Where is the promise of his coming? For ever since the fathers fell asleep, all things have continued as they were from the beginning of creation.”
 They deliberately ignore this fact, that by the word of God heavens existed long ago, and an earth formed out of water and by means of water,
 through which the world that then existed was deluged with water and perished.
 But by the same word the heavens and earth that now exist have been stored up for fire, being kept until the day of judgment and destruction of ungodly men.
 But do not ignore this one fact, beloved, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.
 The Lord is not slow about his promise as some count slowness, but is forbearing toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance.
 and this is the will of him who sent me, that I should lose nothing of all that he has given me, but raise it up at the last day.
 For this is the will of my Father, that every one who sees the Son and believes in him should have eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day.”
 The Jews then murmured at him, because he said, “I am the bread which came down from heaven.”
 They said, “Is not this Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? How does he now say, `I have come down from heaven’?”
 Jesus answered them, “Do not murmur among yourselves.
 No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him; and I will raise him up at the last day.
 It is written in the prophets, `And they shall all be taught by God.’ Every one who has heard and learned from the Father comes to me.
 Not that any one has seen the Father except him who is from God; he has seen the Father.
 Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes has eternal life.
 I am the bread of life.
 Your fathers ate the manna in the wilderness, and they died.
 This is the bread which comes down from heaven, that a man may eat of it and not die.
 I am the living bread which came down from heaven; if any one eats of this bread, he will live for ever; and the bread which I shall give for the life of the world is my flesh.”
 The Jews then disputed among themselves, saying, “How can this man give us his flesh to eat?”
 So Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of man and drink his blood, you have no life in you;
 he who eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day.
 For my flesh is food indeed, and my blood is drink indeed.
 He who eats my flesh and drinks my blood abides in me, and I in him.
 As the living Father sent me, and I live because of the Father, so he who eats me will live because of me.
 This is the bread which came down from heaven, not such as the fathers ate and died; he who eats this bread will live for ever.”
 This he said in the synagogue, as he taught at Caper’na-um.
 Many of his disciples, when they heard it, said, “This is a hard saying; who can listen to it?”
 But Jesus, knowing in himself that his disciples murmured at it, said to them, “Do you take offense at this?
 Then what if you were to see the Son of man ascending where he was before?
 It is the spirit that gives life, the flesh is of no avail; the words that I have spoken to you are spirit and life.
 But there are some of you that do not believe.” For Jesus knew from the first who those were that did not believe, and who it was that would betray him.
 And he said, “This is why I told you that no one can come to me unless it is granted him by the Father.”
 After this many of his disciples drew back and no longer went about with him.
 Jesus said to the twelve, “Do you also wish to go away?”
 Simon Peter answered him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life;
 and we have believed, and have come to know, that you are the Holy One of God.”
 Jesus answered them, “Did I not choose you, the twelve, and one of you is a devil?”
 He spoke of Judas the son of Simon Iscariot, for he, one of the twelve, was to betray him.
 Another parable he put before them, saying, “The kingdom of heaven may be compared to a man who sowed good seed in his field;
 but while men were sleeping, his enemy came and sowed weeds among the wheat, and went away.
 So when the plants came up and bore grain, then the weeds appeared also.
 And the servants of the householder came and said to him, `Sir, did you not sow good seed in your field? How then has it weeds?’
 He said to them, `An enemy has done this.’ The servants said to him, `Then do you want us to go and gather them?’
 But he said, `No; lest in gathering the weeds you root up the wheat along with them.
 Let both grow together until the harvest; and at harvest time I will tell the reapers, Gather the weeds first and bind them in bundles to be burned, but gather the wheat into my barn.’”
 Another parable he put before them, saying, “The kingdom of heaven is like a grain of mustard seed which a man took and sowed in his field;
 it is the smallest of all seeds, but when it has grown it is the greatest of shrubs and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and make nests in its branches.”
 He told them another parable. “The kingdom of heaven is like leaven which a woman took and hid in three measures of flour, till it was all leavened.”
 All this Jesus said to the crowds in parables; indeed he said nothing to them without a parable.
 This was to fulfil what was spoken by the prophet: “I will open my mouth in parables,
I will utter what has been hidden since the foundation of the
 And he called to him the twelve, and began to send them out two by two, and gave them authority over the unclean spirits.
 He charged them to take nothing for their journey except a staff; no bread, no bag, no money in their belts;
 but to wear sandals and not put on two tunics.
 And he said to them, “Where you enter a house, stay there until you leave the place.
 And if any place will not receive you and they refuse to hear you, when you leave, shake off the dust that is on your feet for a testimony against them.”
 So they went out and preached that men should repent.
 And they cast out many demons, and anointed with oil many that were sick and healed them.
