Fast Day
Galatians 2:20-3:12
Mark 13:24-37
Galatians 2:20-3:12
[20] I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me; and the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.
[21] I do not nullify the grace of God; for if justification were through the law, then Christ died to no purpose.
Chapter 3
[1] O foolish Galatians! Who has bewitched you, before whose eyes Jesus Christ was publicly portrayed as crucified?
[2] Let me ask you only this: Did you receive the Spirit by works of the law, or by hearing with faith?
[3] Are you so foolish? Having begun with the Spirit, are you now ending with the flesh?
[4] Did you experience so many things in vain? — if it really is in vain.
[5] Does he who supplies the Spirit to you and works miracles among you do so by works of the law, or by hearing with faith?
[6] Thus Abraham “believed God, and it was reckoned to him as righteousness.”
[7] So you see that it is men of faith who are the sons of Abraham.
[8] And the scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, preached the gospel beforehand to Abraham, saying, “In you shall all the nations be blessed.”
[9] So then, those who are men of faith are blessed with Abraham who had faith.
[10] For all who rely on works of the law are under a curse; for it is written, “Cursed be every one who does not abide by all things written in the book of the law, and do them.”
[11] Now it is evident that no man is justified before God by the law; for “He who through faith is righteous shall live”;
[12] but the law does not rest on faith, for “He who does them shall live by them.”
Mark 13:24-37
[24] “But in those days, after that tribulation, the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light,
[25] and the stars will be falling from heaven, and the powers in the heavens will be shaken.
[26] And then they will see the Son of man coming in clouds with great power and glory.
[27] And then he will send out the angels, and gather his elect from the four winds, from the ends of the earth to the ends of heaven.
[28] “From the fig tree learn its lesson: as soon as its branch becomes tender and puts forth its leaves, you know that summer is near.
[29] So also, when you see these things taking place, you know that he is near, at the very gates.
[30] Truly, I say to you, this generation will not pass away before all these things take place.
[31] Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away.
[32] “But of that day or that hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.
[33] Take heed, watch; for you do not know when the time will come.
[34] It is like a man going on a journey, when he leaves home and puts his servants in charge, each with his work, and commands the doorkeeper to be on the watch.
[35] Watch therefore — for you do not know when the master of the house will come, in the evening, or at midnight, or at cockcrow, or in the morning —
[36] lest he come suddenly and find you asleep.
[37] And what I say to you I say to all: Watch.”
