The Ways of God—The Compass of Man

If we aspire to transcend the limitations of the earthly realm and ascend to the realm of heaven, if we yearn to break free from the constraints of human thought and embrace a divine perspective, we must align our compass with our Lord Jesus. He is the path, the embodiment of goodness, righteousness, and life itself.

We must consult this compass every time we need to make a decision, every time we are faced with a choice, every time we want to ensure we are on the right path, and every time we want to avoid getting lost.

We must remain vigilant and refrain from allowing any love other than that of our Lord Christ to distort and bias the magnetic field of our compass. Instead of a chatty list of trivial matters of gifts that satisfy our desires, our daily prayer should establish and secure the purity of this field. It should maintain the childlike trust in God that we received through the sacrament of Baptism.

In the school of prayer, we learn to interpret the direction our compass shows. We understand the inspiration that guides us when we interpret the data it provides. Our compass points to numerous signs that lead us to the heavenly kingdom of the Father. Are we capable of reading and comprehending these signs?

The Word of God, through Jesus, serves as our guiding compass. Amidst the chaos of the world, amidst the constant noise, we must discern His voice. By training our ears to recognize His voice through His Gospel, we gain the power to find our place in unfamiliar surroundings and direct our desires. The Word of God reveals its grace, offering us numerous paths to true happiness—through knowledge, prophecies, and faith—and ultimately, through love.

This voice, filled with love, possesses the power to give us the spring of eternal life (John 4.14). It nourishes our human nature with God’s life and the grace of unwavering hope. This voice anchors us in peace because it is the voice that calls us to resurrection and liberates us from the anguish of death. In essence, Christian perfection lies in making this supernatural peace a reality.

Let us embark on this journey of learning the voice of God, not with the riches of human knowledge, but with the poverty of humble virtue. Only then will our compass guide us to the kingdom of the Heavenly Father. This voice of God is an invitation, and if we fail to accept it, we will be denied the feast of divine abundance.

The divine adoption, a sanctifying grace, transforms us into children of the Heavenly Father. This divine adoption empowers us to cleanse our inherent capacities and abilities, enabling us to hear the voice of God. We must enroll in this noble school and dedicate ourselves to acquiring the education of our new spiritual life.
